Tottenham fans react on Twitter to Oliver Skipp's debut v Burnley. The 18-year-old earned his full Tottenham Hotspur debut today.
Mauricio Pochettino surprised Tottenham Hotspur fans - and no doubt Burnley - this afternoon by naming Oliver Skipp in his first XI.
Pochettino handed the 18-year-old midfielder a full Premier League debut during this afternoon's clash with the Clarets at Wembley.
And he didn't disappoint, with the Tottenham academy gem, who made a three-minute cameo against Southampton last week, posting an assured midfield performance on what was the biggest day of his burgeoning career.
Here is how fans of the North London club reacted to his display:
Oliver skipp absolute player
Oliver Skipp is a really good player, he's a great potential to be one of the best DML in the future..He's always available, he always plays the ball in between the lines and knows how to protect the space in behind, overall he's got a great character and great self confidence..
In Oliver Skipp we trust #COYS
Very good first 45mins for young Oliver Skipp. Poch seems to have natured another little gem here
Yeah promising but he can do so much more. Know it's debut and all but would like to see him really get stuck in and show people what he can do. #COYS
Skipp doing well for an 18 year old in midfield
Great to see yet another young prospect given the chance by Poch, enjoy your debut Oliver Skipp! #thfc #coys
Even though it’s just Burnley, Skipp is looking pretty decent.
Skipp who was substituted for Son Heung min on 76 minutes, was named by The Guardian as the next big thing coming through Spurs' academy in 2017, and his place in the starting lineup this afternoon illustrates that Pochettino feels the same.
The youngster, who has also appeared in the Carabao Cup this season, has been knocking on the door for an opportunity like today for quite some time, having made the bench in both Champions League games against Barcelona this season.
Tottenham have a huge League Cup quarter-final away to Arsenal on Wednesday night and it'll be interesting to see if Pochettino starts him.
On the back of this performance, he has every chance of retaining his spot in the starting XI.
